Guardian Homes

Our Guardian Home Program 🐾

At High Desert Doodles, our dogs are truly part of our family. They are raised with love, care, and attention every single day. Because we are committed to keeping our program small and giving every dog the life they deserve, we sometimes place special dogs with wonderful Guardian Families.

Guardian Families play a very important role in our program. These families provide a loving forever home for one of our dogs while we maintain breeding rights. In return, the Guardian Family receives a beautiful puppy and the joy of raising them as part of their family.

We carefully choose families who will love and care for these dogs just as much as we do.

A $500 refundable deposit is required to participate in our Guardian Home Program. This deposit helps ensure commitment to the program and the proper care of the dog. Once the guardian program has been completed and all contract terms have been fulfilled, the full $500 deposit will be returned to the guardian family.

Guardian Family Requirements

To ensure our dogs receive the very best care, we ask that Guardian Families:

• Live within 2 hours of Phelan, CA
• Provide excellent veterinary care, nutrition, and exercise
• Keep the dog living indoors as part of the family
• Ideally have a secure fenced yard
• Maintain regular grooming and flea/tick prevention
• Provide training and socialization

Female Guardian Dogs

When a female enters her heat cycle, she will stay with us for a short time for breeding. She will also come to our home to deliver and raise her puppies, as all litters are safely whelped and cared for here.

Guardian families are always welcome to visit during this time.

Females typically retire from our program between 4–6 years of age, at which point they are spayed and continue living their happy lives with their guardian family.

Guardian families should be comfortable learning about heat cycles and helping monitor their female during this time to prevent accidental breeding.

Male Guardian Dogs

Occasionally, our male dogs may stay with us for up to a week when they are needed for breeding.

Guardian families must ensure that males are never around intact females.

Males usually retire from our program around 5–7 years old, after which they are neutered and remain permanently with their loving family.
